Dynamic Tax and Shipping Calculations at Checkout on Websites
Kat Colón, CSM
Currently, tax at checkout is calculated using static, account-level defaults and does not adjust based on the customer’s shipping address or applicable tax laws for the vendor. Additionally, static shipping costs can display in the shopping cart, but they're are not calculated during checkout based on shipping address information entered into the shopping cart.
This feature would enable real-time calculation of both tax and shipping based on the shipping address entered by the customer. Taxes would automatically reflect applicable tax laws, nexus requirements, and location-based rules, while shipping costs would dynamically surface and update in the shopping cart prior to purchase.
Implementing this would improve pricing accuracy, ensure tax compliance, and provide customers with greater transparency during the checkout experience.

Automatically calculate sales tax for out of state purchases
Meredith Pardue
When a client directly purchases a piece from the website and they are out of state, having the Instant Checkout calculate the correct sales tax (like Shopify does), instead of manually having to do it and this way the customer knows exactly what they are being charged.

Shipping for Online purchases
NC Glass Center
Best case scenario would be to have shipping automatically calculated for online purchases to simplify the ability to finalize transactions. If that is too complicated, a flat fee that can be added to each online purchase would suffice.
Adding shipping cost to each inventory item does not leave room for adjustments for varying locations, nor does it work for online purchases of multiple items.
With the current setup - If someone buys 4 cups, and the shipping is $17 per cup, shipping would be $68, which is way more than necessary.

Option to automatically include UK VAT and shipping prices at checkout
J
James Elwes
I am a UK gallery - our customer base is half US and half UK - they are getting really confused by the site's inability to generate VAT and shipping - these are essential components for us. We can't use this platform for print drops when we have a hot artist without this functionality as we rely on speed and automation to make sales. Inputting this information manually is preventing sales! Please fix!!!

Thanks for all the transparency around this. We're discussing options with our team.
NC Glass Center
Andrew Smith Hi there! Has there been any progress on this? We are very hopeful that simplified check out in regards to shipping will help improve online sales. Integrating other shipping platforms like InExpress, Shippo, and/or Stamps seems like a great improvement.
Andrew Smith
NC Glass Center: Thanks for following up here. I'm sorry I've been slow to response. I really appreciate the platform suggestions! We don't have an update for you right now, but will be sure to share when we've got more traction.

In our experience (with our previous web builder, squarespace) the shipping estimates were often wayyyy off, especially if there were multiple items being shipped.

we use UPS and USPS depending on size. We've had some really bad experiences with FedEx so we try to avoid them unless we're shipping for a design client that has an account with them
Andrew Smith
Hey all! Which carriers do you most frequently use for shipping? FedEx? UPS?

David Ethridge
Andrew Smith We use UPS most of the time these days.

Just to add. We never use USPS. For us, they aren't reliable enough and are not an option.

Rough logistics companies' share of market:
37% UPS
33% FedEx
11% DHL
USPS priority mail for smaller items is also probably an important carrier for lots of galleries.
NC Glass Center
Andrew Smith We typically use UPS and USPS, however we use a shipping service (such as GoShippo, InXpress, Stamps, etc) which calculates the shipping through various providers. We previously used Squarespace, and could link that service to the shop directly.

It would be great to have integration with shipping companies. Weebly and square has that, calculated from weight, dimensions and PO code. It was not always accurate as it never included insurance, but wasn’t bad.
